Get to know Art Seiden, one of our Co-Chairs in charge of the Sport Commissioners for the 2019 JCC Maccabi Games in Atlanta!

With 24 years of experience as a volunteer Delegation Head and Coach, we took time to learn more about how the organization has impacted him over this time. When did you first start volunteering for the Maccabi games?

Art Seiden: I started volunteering 24 years ago. Over the course of time I have been a coach and delegation head.

ATL: What about the Games keeps you coming back?

AS: I love Maccabi. It’s like going to summer camp. I enjoy the experience of watching Jewish athletes from all over the states and some foreign countries competing against each other. I also enjoy catching up with DHs and coaches that I have made friends with over the years.

ATL: What is your favorite memory as a player/coach/volunteer?

AS: I think my favorite memory of Maccabi is overhearing an athlete who had nothing to do with Judaism in the past say that he didn’t know there were so many Jewish athletes. I think another memory was the first time I saw Jews from Mexico competing in baseball and soccer.

ATL: How excited are you for Atlanta to host the 2019 Games? What are you most looking forward to?

AS: I am very excited about Atlanta hosting the Games this upcoming summer. It has been 18 years since we last hosted and it is time! It will be fun for all the delegations to come to Atlanta to see how great the Games can be for them.
