The city of Atlanta last hosted the Maccabi games in 2001. A lot has changed since then and we have a lot of new families visiting this time around. We wanted to showcase some Atlanta staples that you could see while on your visit to our great city!

We will start with one of the largest attractions not just in Atlanta, but in the entire world! The Georgia Aquarium is one of the largest aquariums in the world, with over 10 million gallons of tanks housing its animals. Famed for its whale shark exhibit, the aquarium, which opened its doors in 2005, was primarily funded by Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus, whom the Marcus Jewish Community Center of Atlanta is named after.

If dry land is more your thing, you could check out Zoo Atlanta. World Famous for its successful Panda breeding program, the zoo, which was founded in 1889, is one of the oldest zoos in the US. Following major renovations in the 1980s the zoo has been a huge tourist attraction ever since. The zoo houses over 1500 animals and over 200 different species.

Another Atlanta landmark, and something worth checking out is the World of Coca-Cola. This proud Georgia soft drink brand has had its very own museum in the city since 1990 but upgraded to a new building in 2007. This interactive tour and museum offers a lot of entertainment value as well as a commemorative bottle at the end! Coca-Cola is also a national sponsor for the Maccabi Games, and is extremely supportive the games.

If you need a break from all the hustle of Atlanta, you need only look at our extensive parks system around the city. From Centennial Olympic Park, Piedmont Park, and Historic Fourth Ward Park, Atlanta has a park for everyone and their wants. I wanted to showcase one of the newest additions in Atlanta, the Atlanta Beltline. A former railway corridor, it was given new life in 2013 when former Georgia Tech student Ryan Gravel received a federal grant to develop what had initially been his 1999 master’s thesis. It links city parks and neighborhoods while providing walking trails, and new developments.

These are just a few of the many attractions in the city. We have a more complete list of attractions here.
We can’t wait to see our entire Maccabi family next summer!
