We are now LESS THAN ONE WEEK AWAY from Individual Sport Tryouts, and we are thrilled! Team Atlanta will be filling its remaining rosters in the coming weeks so be sure to go to every tryout you can!

Golf is the sport of business, but we only focus on the fun. If you are looking for some extra motivation to try out for Team Atlanta Golf, then maybe these stories of Jews who made it big in the sport can help convince you.

Laetitia Beck is an Israeli Professional Golfer. She has won the Israel Open Golf Championship five times, the first of which came at 12 years of age. She won gold medals in golf at the 2009 and 2013 Maccabiah Games. In December 2014 she became the first Israeli to qualify as a fully-fledged PGA or LPGA Tour player. She also competed for Israel in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro and lettered for Duke University’s Golf team for four years.

Some people discover their dreams in another part of the sport. As was the case for Amy Alcott. Turning pro in 1975 at the age of 18, she was able to win just her third start as a professional. She went on to win 29 LPGA Tour events, including five major championships. She started in the business of golf course design after her playing career, eventually becoming part of the team which designed the golf course for the 2016 Summer Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro. She has since been inducted in the LPGA Hall of Fame, the World Golf Hall of Fame, and the National Jewish Museum Sports Hall of Fame.

These two trailblazers would be unable to attain success without a pioneer to set the path before them. Herman Barron was one of the first Jews allowed into the PGA Tour, and was the first Jew to win a PGA Tour event at the Philadelphia Open Championship in 1942. After his career, he continued to teach golf to others, and eventually played a large role in the development of Israel’s first golf course. He is enshrined in the International Jewish Sports Hall of Fame.
