WHAT ARE THE TIME COMMITMENTS?
Coaches are expected to practice a minimum of once a week for an hour-and-a-half each practice with their team starting in January or February (depending on the sport) until the games that start July 28th and end August 1st. There are also planned team events outside of practices. Coaches will also be present on tryout dates for their respective sport. During the week of the Games this is a full time commitment.
WHAT EXPERIENCE IS REQUIRED TO COACH?
Prior coaching experience is preferred or at least having played the sports for years prior. However, there is an interviewing process that will decide qualifications as well. All coaches will be required to complete and pass a background check.
WHERE ARE PRACTICES HELD?
Basketball practices will be at the MJCCA in one of three gyms and volleyball will practice in one of the gyms as well. Soccer, baseball and flag football will practice on a variety of fields that will be determined before practices start. Tennis will practice on the courts at the MJCCA as well as one other campus while swimming practice will take place on the MJCCA campus.
WHAT ARE THE AGE GROUPS I WILL BE COACHING?
Team sports will have 16-and-under, 13/14 and 15/16 age groupings while individual sports will have competitors 12-years of age and older.
IS THERE ANY COST TO ME?
The only cost to you is your time for practices and team events. The MJCCA will provide gear for coaches and you will not be responsible for ordering it for your team either.
WILL I HAVE ASSISTANT COACHES AND IF SO, WHERE DO THEY COME FROM?
You will have at least one assistant coach to help with practices and team events. You can have more, but they will have to be volunteers you find and will have to register through the JCCA.
HOW MANY TEAMS IS ATLANTA FIELDING?
Team Atlanta will have individual sports like swimming, tennis, bowling, dance, golf, table tennis and track and field. It will also consist of 20 teams that span the sports of baseball, soccer, volleyball, basketball and flag football.
HOW MANY GAMES IS MY TEAM GUARANTEED TO PLAY?
Your team is guaranteed to play on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the week of the Games. Thursday is championship day if your team makes it that far. There is group play that then leads to elimination games.
WILL TRANSPORTATION BE PROVIDED FOR OFF-SITE VENUES?
Yes. Coaches will meet at the MJCCA with their team and ride buses to each venue. There must be at least one coach per team on the bus to ride with the athletes.
ARE ALL TEAMS REQUIRED TO BE AT OPENING AND CLOSING CEREMONIES?
Yes. This is an event we want every athlete and coach to be involved in and get the opportunity to experience first-hand.
IS FOOD PROVIDED ON GAME DAYS?
The MJCCA will provide snacks for athletes and coaches on campus and at off-site venues. There will also be meals available for purchase on-site that are kosher-certified.
